Daughter of dismembered mother could be scarred for life according to psychologist

Charlene Gaither's 12 year old daughter's admission that she witnessed her father kill her mother and then was forced to help him get rid of her body took Gaither's murder case to another level of tragedy.

"She's going to be traumatized for a good long while," Dr. Rebecca Rutledge said.

Rutledge, a clinical psychologist, said the girl could be scarred for her entire life unless she gets a lot of help quickly.

"I would think she would be suffering from post traumatic stress reaction, can't get it off her mind has a lot of guilt," Rutledge said.

While Gaither's daughter has witnessed domestic violence in its worst possible form, she is not alone in seeing her home turn into a place of terror.

"When it comes to domestic violence number of times children witness or involved in home with violence is heartbreaking," Catherine Collins of th the Exchange Club said.

The Memphis Police Department reported getting 6,700 calls about domestic violence in one year.
