Arkansas family reunited with dog 2 weeks after tornado

GASSVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Pongo found his way home.

The 9-year-old basset hound and blue heeler mix had been missing since the February Fifth tornado devastated the Gassville area. Pongo's owner, Katresa Harris, says the tornado damaged her family's home and the dog's outside pen.

But every day since the tornado, the family returned their home - which they are not living in during repairs - to see if Pongo had come back.

Yesterday, he was there.

Pongo escaped after the tornado broke open the family's fence. The family made posters with a picture of Pongo and checked animal shelters for any sign of their dog.

When he returned home, Pongo was thin but healthy.

The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas says at least 30 animals were reported missing after the storm. The organization posted lost-and-found notices on its Web site to help reunite the animals with their owners.
