Mac Winker has had a hot hand lately.
Last year he landed Venus Williams for the first time. This year it's Lindsay Davenport.
Davenport entertained the media and guests Sunday night on the eve of the Cellular South Cup and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships. The 31 year old was ranked #1 in the world as recently as 2005 before taking time off to have a baby. She hasn't missed a beat since the child was born 8 months ago. She's already notched up 3 wins during her comeback.
Davenport will play her first match around 8pm tomorrow night as the 4-seed against Sabine Lisicki.
Venus Williams is the top seed and will return to defend her title.
On the men's side...#2 seed James Blake has arrived as well. He broke through here in Memphis in 2002 when he made it to the finals against Andy Roddick. Last year he missed the Memphis stop with an injury but proclaims himself fit after a making it to the quarterfinals in SAP Open last week. Blake's first round match is against Donald Young Tuesday night or Wednesday.
Speaking of Roddick, he's playing here after all.
He originally declined but accepted the 3rd and final wild card. The former Memphis champ will come in with a lot of confidence after winning the SAP Open Sunday in San Jose. He downed Radek Stepanek in straight sets 6-4 and 7-5. Roddick is the #1 seed in the tournament.
The first big name to play will be 3-seed Tommy Haas Monday night not before 6:30p
