SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The Spurs overcame a 1-for-17, first-quarter shooting performance to beat visiting Atlanta 89-74 for their season-best sixth straight win. San Antonio is a game up on New Orleans and Dallas at the top of the Southwest Division standings and trails the Western Conference-leading L.A. Lakers by a half-game.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Philadelphia forward Jesse Boulerice (BOH'-luh-rihs) got into a fight during his first shift since serving a 25-game suspension for hitting a player across the face with his stick in October. The Flyers beat Buffalo 4-3 in a shootout.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Bears and quarterback Kyle Orton have agreed on a one-year contract extension that runs through the 2009 season. That sets up a competition between him and Rex Grossman, who the Bears re-signed two days earlier.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova pulled out of the Dubai Championships today with a viral infection. The Russian tennis star says she started feeling ill before her run to the title at last week's event in Qatar. The Dubai Championships offers $1.5 million in prize money and has attracted the top six ranked players in the world.

ROME (AP) - Olympic athletes in Italy could soon be using Ferrari-designed equipment to help improve their performances. Their country's Olympic Committee has announced an agreement to team up with the sports car maker in an effort to develop more aerodynamical materials and better technical results for its athletes. The partnership will focus on materials for bobsled, luge, skeleton, speedskating, sailing, canoe and Paralympic skiing.
