Two years later, Mary Winkler removes belongings from former Selmer home

Mary Winkler shot and killed her preacher husband Matthew inside their Selmer home in early 2006.

Last week, nearly two years after the shooting, Winkler showed up with a U-Haul and cleared out items from the house.

The house is owned by the Fourth Street Church of Christ, where Matthew Winkler was a preacher.  Members of the church refused to talk about Mary Winkler on camera, and didn't know the church was preparing to sell the house.

Wilburn Ashe, an elder at the church, confirmed the home was being renovated.

"We've been almost two years, and we need to get rid of the house or do something with the house," he said.

Ashe said a church member was being paid to renovate the home, including the installation of new bathrooms, new carpeting, and in some rooms new flooring.  The bedroom where Matthew Winkler was shot in the back  by Mary was completely redone.

The church's new preacher bought his own house.  Ashe wasn't sure if the home's notoriety would make it difficult to sell.

"I don't know that it does," he said.  I'm sure in some people's minds, it probably does."

Mary's former neighbors said they were pleased something was being done with the home.
