Pulled fire alarms lead to large fight at Wooddale High

Officials at Memphis City Schools say a large fight Thursday at Wooddale High School was started after someone pulled a prank.

Exclusive video of the fight, obtained by Action News 5, show the brawl that happened after someone pulled a fire alarm.

"Everybody started going crazy," said Cerissa James, the student who shot the video.

James said she must keep a watchful eye before, during, and after class.

"I'm always looking over my shoulder, 'cause I don't anybody come and run up on me and fighting," she said. "I don't want to get in the middle of somebody fighting and getting hurt."
School leaders said four fire alarms were pulled throughout the day. Each time, students had to be evacuated, which lead to crowds pushing, shoving, and fighting.

After the fourth fire alarm, administrators dismissed students early. Word traveled to parents who were visibly upset.

"Who we supposed to turn to?" asked parent Marquel Hunt.  "What we supposed to do? You know, that's all I want to know man."
The first order of business Friday, school officials said, would be a talk with the student body.

"We will let the students know that this is not going to be tolerated," said Assistant Principal Beverly Barbee. "Pranks of this nature are a criminal offense, and we will make sure the students are aware of this."

An ongoing prank disrupting the entire student body could ultimately lead to a student suspension or even expulsion.
