RNC criticizes Tenn. GOP for use of Obama's middle name, photo

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan is publicly criticizing the Tennessee Republican Party for a press release about Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The release sent out Monday claimed Obama was anti-Israel and included a photo of the Illinois senator in traditional Kenyan clothing and used his middle name, Hussein.

In a written statement Duncan says: "The RNC rejects these kinds of campaign tactics."

The state GOP had removed Obama's middle name and the photo from the release on Wednesday night following a conversation with Sen. Lamar Alexander, a Tennessee Republican.

The remainder of the release was removed from the state party's Web site on Thursday.
