Train collides with SUV early Saturday morning

An SUV was destroyed early Saturday morning after it collided with train in Memphis.

This Ford Explorer was toted off by a tow truck just before 4:00 a.m. this morning after it got stuck on the train tracks at Mendenhall and Southern.

Brad Sparks, a passenger in the vehicle, said the driver was traveling north on Mendenhall when missed the split where the road becomes Mount Moriah and got stuck.

"He put it in reverse," Sparks said.  "He put it in drive.  He put it in everything trying to get  the car to rock off the tracks.  The middle of the car was sitting on the tracks, so there was really no way we could get off."

Sparks said a lack of signage on the road was to blame for the accident.

No one was hurt in the collision.  Employees at a nearby restaurant said the intersection where the collision occurred is a common location for accidents.
