Tipton County rape suspect remains behind bars

New details continue to surface about a Tipton County man accused with the rape and incest of two relatives.

Tipton County Sheriff's deputies first arrested James Boles on Wednesday in Munford for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.  Friday, Boles was charged with the rape and incest of a second relative, a 16-year-old girl.

Investigators said it was Boles' mother who alerted authorities about multiple sexual assaults that started last year.

According to Tipton County Sheriff's Department Deputy Chief Donna Turner, when Boles realized he was in trouble, he went into hiding in the woods near his home in Munford.

"He fled because we had been to the residence several times trying to locate him," Turner said. "He would call family members and tell them he was somewhere in Memphis."

But on Friday, Boles walked into the Munford Police Department and surrendered.  Tipton County Sheriff's Deputies were waiting on him.

Neighors like Bill Smith were shocked to hear Boles' story.

"Any normal person would be," Smith said. "But I ain't got nothing bad to say about a guy I don't know, if any of the things that's said about him is even true>

But Tipton County investigators say they had enough evidence to charge Boles, who is currently behind bars at the Tipton County jail.

A hearing for Boles had to be delayed while he is given a mental evaluation.  Authorities ordered the tests based on statements Boles made after his arrest.
