GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Brett Favre has announced his retirement. The three-time NFL Most Valuable Player is calling it quits after a season in which he led the Green Bay Packers to 13 wins and a spot in the NFC title game.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Free agent defensive end Travis LaBoy has signed a five-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. The pact is worth a reported 22 million dollars, with 7.5 million guaranteed.

NEW YORK (AP) - The NBA has reinstated Chris Anderson from a drug suspension. His former team, the New Orleans Hornets, continue to own his playing rights and have 30 days to offer him a contract.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - The new number-one team in the weekly Associated Press top-25 men's college basketball poll is in action tonight. North Carolina has a home game with Florida State, a school the Tar Heels beat in overtime last month.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The National League champion Colorado Rockies have worked out a new deal with Brad Hawpe. The three-year pact is worth 17.4 million dollars. Hawpe drove in 116 runs last season and had 29 home runs.
