Bartlett woman recovering after close encounter with burglar

A Mid-South woman is recovering after a burglar broke into her home and knocked her down.

Now police are searching for the suspect.

Saturday afternoon the victim, who did not want to be identified, was with her husband in their back yard doing some gardening.

She went inside to get her rosebush clippers when she met a burglar in her bedroom going through her bedside table.

"You feel completely shocked.  It's like I don't believe it and there he was. I just screamed and he had to get past me so he knocked me down and broke two bones in my wrist," she said.

She has lived in the house for 43 years and said she had never experienced anything like this. Not only did the burglar break her wrist, he also stole some money and jewelry. Including her cherished 40th wedding anniversary ring.

"It coulda been worse I guess but still. You should be safe in your own house. Especially in bright daylight," she said.

The victim said the whole traumatic ordeal lasted less than five minutes, but her mental and physical recovery is going to take a lot longer.

Police are still looking for the suspect. If you have any information, call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH.
