Thief steals Girl Scout cookie money outside library

The robbery happened last Friday in broad daylight in the parking lot of a library in North Memphis.

The woman who was robbed was carrying nearly $2,000 in cash. It was money which belonged to the Girls Scouts.

Memphis Police say the woman was approached by a man from behind. According to the police report, he got near her car and told her to give him the money.

Instead, the woman threw the tote bag inside her car.  That was when she was pushed down.

The man grabbed the cash, the bag, and her credit cards, and took off toward the Goodwill Village Apartments. The woman chased after him, but it was too late.

The robber got away with $1,800 in cash from the sale of Girl Scout cookies.

"We don't believe at this point if they actually knew she was a troop leader or affiliated with the girl scouts.  They were not out selling cookies.  She was just leaving the public library heading to her car when she was approached by these suspects," Monique Martin of the Memphis Police Department said.

Now, police are looking for two men seen inside the library just minutes before the robbery. They are both wanted for questioning.

Martin said the woman was not injured in the robbery. Martin's advice to anyone is to never carry large amounts of money.
