Police investigate Wednesday night homicide

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Police are investigating after a Memphis man was shot to death late Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Woodbine Street, near Elvis Presley Boulevard, shortly before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said shortly before they were called, a group of people were gathered behind a building there.  Investigators aren't sure what happened next, but said gunshots rang out.

Lt. Col. Mark McClain said when officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the street with at least two gunshot wounds to the chest.

"We are talking to some witnesses on the scene," he said. "Of course, we are asking that anyone that happens to have been driving by or walking through the neighborhood who saw or heard anything to please give us a call. We'd appreciate it."

McClain said the victim, a 37-year-old man, lived in the neighborhood.  His identity has not yet been released.
