Elderly Memphis woman dies in fire

A house fire claimed the life of an elderly Memphis woman early Thursday morning, official said.

The fire broke out inside a home in the 1600 block of Ball Road.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was pouring out of the house.  Inside, they found a 69-year-old woman unconscious in her bedroom.  The woman was taken to The MED, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.  She later died.

Firefighters also discovered a 79-year-old woman inside the home, also suffering from smoke inhalation.  She was also taken to The MED, where she is listed in non-critical condition.

Authorities believe the fire started near the front of the home, but have not yet determined a cause.
