Snow expected across much of the Mid-South

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A winter storm warning has been issued for portions of Tennessee for a system that's expected to dump heavy snow across the state.

Most school districts were closed across West and Middle Tennessee on Friday in anticipation of widespread travel problems due to icy roads.

The National Weather Service had West Tennessee under a winter storm warning early Friday. The winter storm warning for Middle Tennessee was in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.

The storm was expected to leave more than 4 inches of snow for areas around Memphis, and Tennesseans near the Kentucky border were expected to receive more than 6 inches of accumulation.

Nashville was forecast to have 2 to 4 inches of snow, and East Tennessee was expecting 1-2 inches of snow Saturday.
