UT-Martin campus lockdown lifted; robbery suspect still at large

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have lifted a lockdown at the University of Tennessee at Martin after searching the campus for a man suspected of robbing a nearby bank.

University spokesman Bud Grimes says the suspect remained at large but university officials reopened the campus for normal business.

Police say a man robbed a bank about a mile west of of the 7,000-student campus about noon, while wearing a wig and armed with a revolver. He fled in a stolen vehicle that was later found abandoned in a campus parking lot.

Students, faculty and staff were told by e-mail and emergency text messages to stay inside with doors locked while the search was ongoing.
