Austin Peay, UT, Vandy offer free music downloads

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Austin Peay State University will join the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt as subscribers of a free music-downloading service for students.

The three schools have contracted with Ruckus Network Inc., a Herndon, Va.-based digital media service provider that supplies legal downloads specifically for college students.

Students can access more than 3 million songs from the most current Billboard chart toppers to tracks from thousands of labels. They can also get movies and television shows.

The advertising-supported service doesn't cost the university or students any money.

Vanderbilt and UT students have previously been targeted by lawsuit from the Recording Industry Association of America over illegal downloading.
