Tigers Rose Smells Sweet as C-USA Rookie of Year

From the moment he signed to play at the University of Memphis, you knew he was destined to lead the Tigers to greatness..

Given he's come through on his ability..Derrick Rose is named Freshman of the Year in Conference USA.

The 6'3" Rose is one of the most athletic point guards in the nation...

The Chicago native is second on the Tigers in Scoring and tops in assists..

His 141 dishes are third most by a Freshman in U of M history.

Rose is also a finalist for the Cousy award as the Nations' top point guard, and the Wooden Award as THE top player in the Country.

Rose says:

"I'm happy. It was a goal of mine coming to this University. It's an accomplishment. "

  Adds Tigers Head Coach John Calipari 

"It's as much his will to win as his temperment. He's as good as it gets. He's really really good."

More League honors for the Tigers Joey Dorsey, who today is named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for the Second Straight season.

The 6'9" Senior leads the league in Rebounding at 10 per game, and blocked shots with 59.

Dorsey is Third all-time in C-USA Blocks..

Joining Dorsey on the All-Defensive team for the second year in a row is Tigers Guard Antonio Anderson..

The Junior from Boston also leads C-USA in assist to turnover ration at 2.28 to 1.

And a nice hand for former Sheffield High star Randy Culpepper of UTEP

He earns C-USA All-Freshman team honors and is Conference USA's 6th Man of the Year.
