Man faces capital murder charge in UA student's death

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man accused of killing a University of Arkansas student now faces a capital murder charge.

If convicted, Zachariah Marcyniuk, 28, of Fayetteville faces either life in prison without parole or the death penalty for the slaying of Katie Wood. Police found Wood, 24, dead in a bathtub in her apartment Sunday.

Prosecutors say Marcyniuk also faces a residential burglary charge as well.

A preliminary autopsy conducted by the state Crime Laboratory found Wood died from multiple stab wounds.

Marcyniuk was being held without bond Wednesday in the Washington County jail. Police say he told his mother he blacked out during the struggle with Wood.
