GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - A strange odor was detected in parts of Germantown High School early Friday afternoon, leading several staff members to be taken to a local hospital.

Germantown spokesperson Angela Buckley said five staff members were taken from the school to a local hospital after complaining of minor skin irritation, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing.

Officials said the odor was coming from the school’s cafeteria, which was not in use by students at the time.

As a precaution, officials evacuated everyone from Germantown High School’s Building A, which houses the cafeteria, as well as offices and classrooms.  Staff and students from the building were moved to Germantown’s football stadium.

Officials are currently trying to determine what type of substance caused the odor.
