Friends and family raise money for man killed at Windjammer Restaurant

Shelby County Deputy Chris Jones sits in a cell at 201 Poplar.

Investigators said he shot and killed a man who was trying to break up a fight between Jones and another man.

Friday night, people in East Memphis are trying to help a mother and her three children, now alone dealing with the lost of a father and the family's sole provider.
 
"A man who's trying to make an honest living for his family and then his life be taken it hurts," neighbor and relative Sharon Ballinger said. 

The hurt for Sharon Ballinger hits home. Her niece Stacy Harris was raising three children with 42 year old Donald "DJ" Munsey. Now she is a single mother trying explain death to their children.

"I just talked to his little girl Lexus and she said be sure that everybody knows...that everybody knows that she was a daddy's girl," Ballinger said. 
 
Less than 24 hours after the shooting, Ballinger and her husband came out to the Windjammer Friday night to help raise money for the family Munsey left behind.
 
Investigators said Shelby County deputy Chris Jones was off duty and began fighting outside the Windjammer Restaurant with another man named Justin about a parking space.

Detectives said "DJ" Munsey tried breaking up the brawl. Reports said Jones pulled out his gun and fired his weapon, wounding the other man and killing Munsey
