Five firefighters trapped battling early morning blaze

Five Memphis firefighters were taken to local hospitals early Sunday morning after part of a burning house collapsed on top of them.

Crews were called to a house fire in the 1800 block of York Avenue just after 4:00 a.m. Sunday, where a guest house located behind a larger home was burning.

Investigators said as crews attempted to extinguish the blaze at the guest house, part of the building collapsed, trapping five firefighters underneath the burning structure.

All five firefighters were quickly rescued, officials said.  Four of the firefighters were transported to The MED with second degree burns.  A fifth was transported to Methodist University Hospital with a minor leg injury.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
