Mother of children killed in fire mourns while she recovers

Crystal Young's sons Deshawn, 7, and Eric ,2, died when their house went up in flames.

From her hospital bed Young said the boys were in a back bedroom when the fire started.

"I ran back to where their room was and the door was just completely on fire," Young said.

Young said that is when she ran outside to the back of the house and tried to help her sons escape out of their bedroom window.

"The window they were trapped in. The window was painted and nailed shut and the window was so high up," Young said.

Young said she severely injured her arm breaking out the window. Her feet were also burned.

"Cry, Cry. Right now I'm just mourning the loss of my two boys. I just feel that a lot of this could have been prevented," Young said.

Young thinks the fire was electrical.

She is upset because she claims she complained to her landlord a number of times about electrical problems at the Section 8 home she was renting.

Landlord and town mayor Kevin Love talked with Action News Five Monday. He claimed there were no electrical issues with the duplex.
