Two THP officers on leave pending internal investigation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two Tennessee Highway Patrol officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation.

The Department of Safety says Sgt. Larry Hitchcock and Trooper William Futrell are under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility.

Spokeswoman Laura McPherson would not give further details on the investigation, but the Highway Patrol has said it is looking into allegations of troopers using or selling steroids.

The investigation into the two officers started on March 12 after the department received external information about the employees.

A similar investigation into steroid use or sale by officers at the Nashville Police Department led to temporary disciplinary action this year against three officers, who were stripped of badges and guns.
