Memphis to host Regionals for NCAA Tournament in 2009

Hometown basketball pride could reach a whole new level next year as the city of Memphis will host the Regional semifinals and finals for the Men's NCAA basketball tournament in 2009.

The news means march madness for basketball fans and big business for local merchants.

"I want all the Memphians to see what it looks like with the University of Memphis playing down in Houston because that's what it's going to be in Memphis next year," Kevin Kane of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

In years past, Memphis hosted first and second round games of the NCAA Tournament, but never a Regional.
Thousands of fans are expected to be in Memphis for 4 or 5 days. It is great exposure and great for business.

Michael Haro with Superior Restaurant on Beale Street was lickin' his chops just thinking about how busy they'll be.

"It means stock up, get a lot of food and a lot of good ribs.  Have your ribs ready," Haro said.
Not only will FedExForum host the Men's Regional next year, but it will host the Women's Regional in 2010.
