A deadly accident on I-240 near Millbranch caused major problems for commuters Monday morning in Memphis.

Investigators said just after 5:00 a.m. Monday, a white Honda Accord, traveling westbound on I-240 just east of I-55, crossed the median and hit a tractor trailer head on.  The driver of the Honda, identified as 20-year-old Lorenzo Price, died instantly in the accident.

The crash scattered the Accord into pieces, initially making it difficult for investigators to identify exactly what kind of car it was.  The tractor trailer was also heavily damaged, although its driver was said to be ok.

Pieces of steel from the load the tractor trailer was carrying were scattered across the roadway during the collision, further adding to the mess.

Eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed while officials attempted to clean-up the accident and determine exactly what happened.

The accident was cleared by mid-morning.

Officials have not yet said why they think the Accord crossed over into oncoming traffic.
