High winds take toll in Pleasant Grove area

High winds took a toll in the Pleasant Grove area at around midnight Monday night.

Some people say the winds whipped so loudly it sounded like a tornado.

Kay McNemar assessed the damage from the storm Tuesday morning.

The storm brought down huge trees all around the area near Sardis, Mississippi.

"All of a sudden I heard the roaring and my granddaughter was in the living room and jumped up and said what's that? And I said get down," McNemar said.
McNemar said it sounded like a tornado, but Action News 5 Meterologist John Bryant says it's most likely just winds that caused all the damage.

"The hammock was turned over on the pool standing up right and it was over by the tree is where the hammock was," McNemar said.
The wind also picked up a swing set.

The underpinning all along the McNemar's house is now torn off.

The dog pin even got picked up while the dog was in it.

"He came to the back door screaming...let me in," McNemar said.

The dog is just fine now.

McNemar and her granddaughter are okay too. Just a little tired after a night with no sleep and weary about how to start cleaning up.

Kay McNemar says she has lived in the Pleasant Grove area for about 12 years, and never experienced a storm as bad as the one Monday night.
