Friends remember Tunica man killed by floodwater

Flood waters make it impossible in some places for residents to drive around in communities at the Tunica Lake cutoff. But no one thought the water would be deadly.

It was for James Paul Smith, who everyone called J.P.

"We were standing in the yard and seen it there was a four wheeler upside down and then we saw the body come floating by," friend Mike Taylor said.

He didn't know it was his friend J.P.

Friends said Smith was last seen riding his four wheeler Wednesday night at 10 o'clock.

He rode across the flooded roadway.

He was headed home after leaving the Sunset Bar and Grill.

Bar owner Sharon Mallory said everyone loved J.P. Smith.

"You couldn't ask for a better person. I was really shocked to hear that this happened," Mallory said.

People at the Sunset Bar and Grill say Smith was their favorite customer and he even had his own chair with his name on it.

J.P. Smith's friends say they can't believe something like this happened to him.
