Civil rights leader convicted of incest

LEESBURG, Va. (AP) - A jury in Leesburg, Virginia, has convicted a civil rights leader of incest after concluding that he had sex with his teenage daughter 15 years ago.

The Rev. James L. Bevel was a top lieutenant to Martin Luther King Jr. He also is credited with helping to conceive and organize the Million Man March.

Bevel faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.

The four-day trial included bizarre testimony about Bevel's philosophies for eradicating lust. Other testimony was about the duty of parents to "sexually orient" their children.
