Storm damages several buildings, injures 1 person

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. (AP) - Severe storms damaged several homes and injured one person Friday in southern Tennessee as a line of heavy rain, hail and high winds streaked across the state.

A possible tornado damaged an unknown number homes in an area about five miles west of Lawrenceburg.

One person was injured, but it was not believed to be life-threatening.

Tennessee Valley Authority power lines were damaged, causing widespread power outages.

National Weather Service forecasters say officials saw a funnel cloud in the area, but there have been no witnesses to a tornado touchdown.

Marshall County emergency management officials say a medical helicopter crew reported spotting a tornado on the ground east of Lawrenceburg, near Interstate 65.

Some power lines were knocked down in northern Giles County.

The damaging storms come in the same week that heavy rains led to flooding in parts of West and Middle Tennessee.
