Cupboard opens in West Memphis after arson

Like the Phoenix rising and moving a few hundred feet East, the New Cupboard restaurant opened in West Memphis a couple of weeks ago in the Holiday Inn at the former Perkins Restaurant location.

It came after an arson fire at the original location next door.

"He said hey, I want you here in our store. I said there's a Perkins there now. He said, if you come Perkins is gone. He said, if you come Perkins is out of here. We want the Cupboard here," owner Charles Cavallo said.

Jereme Cavallo and his father had planned to open the restaurant on what is now a parking lot.  But just before it could happen, investigators say someone set a fire in the building that once housed Earl's Hot Biscuits.

West Memphis police said someone used an accelerant to start the fire they are calling arson.

The Cavallo's liked the idea of opening in the Holiday Inn and using the former location as a parking lot.

Jereme Cavallo, who is running the restaurant, said it will be the same as the Cupboard in Memphis.

"Everything is going to be the same. I think when you start changing things people don't like change," Cavallo said.

One thing that will be different is the size. The kitchen is at least two to three times bigger than the Memphis restaurant.
