New Lady Tigers Head Basketball Coach Plan for Success

There's a new hand at the Rudder of University of Memphis Lady Tigers Basketball.

Melissa McFerrin is introduced today as only the 4th Head Coach in Lady Tigers History.

She comes to Memphis after a 4-year stint at American University in Washington, D.C.

McFerrin was just named Patriot League Coach of the Year after guiding her team to the schools' first regular season League Title.

Her 2007 squad advanced to the Patriot League Championship.

This after taking over a struggling program that won only 20-games total her first 2-years.

She inherits a Lady Tigers Program that's been equally inept lately, winning only 10 games last season.

  McFerrin says:

"I think you'll see an immediate difference. I think you'll see a distinct difference in style of play. I hope you'll see a difference in the energy level and the passion we display on the basketball floor...'cause those will be the first building blocks we put in place."

McFerrin has pro experience as an Assistant Coach with the WNBA in New York when the Liberty played for the League Championship in 19-99.

She also worked as General Manager for the Washington Mystics, helping guide that team to its' first ever playoff berth in 2000.

As a player, McFerrin was a Starting Point Guard at Missouri in the early 80's, leading Mizzou to the Big 8 Championship and NCAA Sweet 16 in 19-82.
