Quirk at Nashville gas station allowed gas theft after hours

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - When Nashville police got a tip that cars were pulling up to pumps at a south Nashville gas station after business hours, they suspected drug dealing.

What they found was much stranger.

A detective who watched the station early Tuesday saw two cars on the property for 45 minutes.

When officers moved in to question the drivers, gasoline began overflowing from the tank of 21-year-old Brandi Washington's car.

According to police, Washington and 36-year-old Christopher Sims told officers they were there to steal gasoline.

Both said they had been told by others how to manipulate the pump to make gas flow free, but very slowly.

Washington and Sims were cited on theft charges and officers informed the station's managers of the scheme.
