Airplane makes emergency landing at Memphis International Airport

Action News 5 has learned a plane made an emergency landing at Memphis International Airport late Thursday afternoon.

A representative with the Memphis Fire Department said the airplane left the airport around 5:30pm, and returned shortly after because of engine trouble.

The airplane, a Delta flight bound for Atlanta with 75 passengers on board, landed safely in Memphis.

A representative at Memphis International Airport was not sure when passengers would once again depart for Atlanta.

An Action News 5 viewer in Southaven said she heard a series of loud booms and saw flames shooting out of the plane's left engine as it was taking off.
