Neighbors tired of prostitutes in their neighborhood

For the second time this week, Memphis police cracked down on prostitution. Picking up women along the streets of Shelby County.

But Thursday's bust turned up something that shocked even the city's top cop. A teenager, who was supposed to be in school, trying to sell her body for sex.

The take down started at 6 a.m. Some of the suspected hookers did not go easily. The arrest of a 15 year old in what appeared to be a city school uniform would seem to be the most shocking.

"Some of them look younger than that 10, 11. Look like little babies," neighbor Henry Wilbourn said.

Henry Wilbourn says they are out all over the neighborhood.

"It's flooded with them. You can see just a line of them. They are walking for no reason just up and down yo can see them. One hour and two hours later they are still going up and down the same street," Wilbourn said.

Queenie Davis said a lot of the teenaged prostitutes in the area dress like city school students.

"They really making it hard for the kids to go to school because my daughter went to school walking one day and the man pulled her to the side and was trying to get her to get in the truck with her," Davis said.

In a neighborhood with hookers walking, you also have children running after the ice cream man.

"There's too much going on around here," neighbor Dorothea Williams said.

Williams is afraid for her granddaughter.

"I have a 14 year old grand daughter and I would feel mighty bad if she was caught up there prostituting," Williams said.

Neighbors said the hookers bring the drug trade with them. They want them out.

Police said they intend to clean up the areas infested with hookers.
