A Shelby County District Attorney investigator is off the job and charged with DUI.  Officers arrested Ronald Wilkinson after he crashed his car over the weekend.

According to a police incident report, when officers arrived at the scene of the crash just on Bill Morris Parkway just before 1:00am Saturday, they smelled alcohol coming from Wilkinson and his speech was slurred.

The report said Wilkinson refused to take a breath alcohol test.

At the time of the crash, the District Attorney investigator was driving a government-owned car.  Investigators said Wilkinson swerved off the road and crashed into a guardrail as he traveled westbound lane on Bill Morris Parkway, near Kirby Parkway.

The District Attorney's Office said it is policy that government-issued cars can only be used for official business.  A spokesperson said Wilkinson was not on official business at the time of the crash.

Wilkinson was treated and released from the hospital.  He is charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, and refusal to submit to a breath alcohol test.
