Officer under investigation for whipping child

A Memphis Police officer is under investigation for handcuffing and whipping a seven year old.

Friday, the child's mother, Tammy Glasper, demanded action.

"I don't feel that it should happen to any kid," she said.

Glasper claims a Memphis Police Officer from the Douglas CoAct Unit spanked her seven-year-old son with a belt.

"They violated my son's constitutional rights and I don't like that at all," Glasper said.

Glasper said the officer handcuffed her son and four other kids, put them in his squad car, and spanked her son with his belt.  He told the kids they need to do right.

Glasper said she did not give the officer permission to punish her son, nor did she give him permission to take her son off school grounds.

Some parents have conflicting thoughts about it.

"I can't really say if it was right or wrong.  It's based on what they were doing," parent Annette Coleman said.

Others know exactly how they feel.

"Don't put your hand on my child.  It's not right," parent Beverly Briscoe said.

Our cameras caught investigating officers going into Glasper's home to interview her about the incident. Glasper said she is trying to stay level headed about the situation.

"I think he need a whipping.  They give me the belt, I'll do it," Glasper said.

Officer Ryan Jackson has been relieved of duty with pay until police complete the investigation.

Glasper did not say what prompted the alleged incident.
