Pearl, Fulmer Come to Memphis with Big Orange Caravan

It's a little Golf and a Lot of Talk as the Big Orange Caravan rolls into the Memphis area at the Germantown Country Club today.

Bruce Pearl is the toast of Vol Nation right now after helping Tennessee spend 1 week as the to #1 team in the Nation for the first time in school history this past season.

Head Football coach Phil Fulmer on hand as well.

Both coaches say Memphis is a fertile recruiting ground for the Vols...Fulmer going as far as to call it Knoxville West after pulling in several of the cities' top Gridiron prospects.

But with the growing rivalry in Basketball...does Pearl feel the spectre of Coach Cal and the Memphis Tigers hanging around todays' UT gathering?

  Pearl answers:

"Cal is in Berkely, right? Oh, you mean Coach Cal? He's absolutely one of the best coaches in the country and we have some good healthy competition. We bump into each other in recruiting once in a while or in the airport, but it's great Tennessee and Memphis have a rivalry once again in basketball."

After years of whining from Vols Football fans to open up the offense...Fulmer is changing to the West Coast offense this Fall under new coordinator Dave Clawson.

But, Fulmer says the move is NOT because of pressure from the alumni base.

"Well we won a lot games the way we used to play. But it still comes back to being able to run the football.

Look at the two teams that played for the national championship.

They didn't have any magical schemes...just good players playing hard.">

Fulmer says Quarterback Jonathan Crompton is recovering fine from arthroscopic surgery on his throwing elbow and will be ready to this Fall.
