Olive Branch police investigate series of air conditioner thefts

For nearly a week, Olive Branch police have been looking for any information that could help them solve the case of the missing air conditioners.

Even the armored guards outside the Squire Manor subdivision couldn't stop the thief or thieves responsible for vandalizing several air conditioning units there.  The subdivision is under construction in north Olive Branch.

Police say six units from three empty homes were vandalized within the past week.

“Instead of stealing the whole units they're taking them apart and taking the aluminum coils out of them,” said Olive Branch Police Detective Ronnie Flanigan.

The theft cost contractors around $12,000.   Police believe the units were vandalized sometime last Wednesday or Thursday, though an official police report wasn't filed until last Friday afternoon.

The builder of the homes originally thought the units were being worked on, but after asking a few questions, he realized the units had been stolen.

Investigators said a similar theft report was filed last Thursday at a separate Olive Branch subdivision.  They believe the two incidents may be related, but don't have many leads in either case.

“These has been a report saying that there was a Chevrolet pickup, but I don't really have a color, and I don't have any tag information or anything like that,” Flanigan said.

Even though aluminum theft is a growing trend in DeSoto County and the Mid-South, investigators in Olive Branch hope they can curb it by catching whoever committed this crime.

If you have any information on this crime or know who is responsible, call the Olive Branch police department.  That number is 662-895-4111.
