1 killed as plane goes down in E. Ark. field near Wheatley

WHEATLEY, Ark. (AP) - One person is dead after a cropdusting airplane crashed in a field in the southwest corner of St. Francis County, authorities say.

The crash Wednesday afternoon occurred about a mile north and a mile west of the community of Wheatley, within about a mile of Interstate 40, according to a state police dispatcher at Forrest City.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said a trooper went to the scene briefly, but the reporting and investigation of the accident are being handled by the St. Francis County sheriff's office.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said no information on the plane crash would be available until Thursday morning.
