Senate panel OKs $39M in flood-relief funding for Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor say a Senate committee has set aside at least 39 million dollars in federal funding to help Arkansas recover from a spate of severe weather and flooding.

The senators, both Democrats from Arkansas, announced the funding today. The state will receive about 6 million dollars for flood recovery under the Emergency Watershed Protection program and 33 million dollars for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore navigation channels and to assess levees and floodwalls.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the funding - part of the fiscal 2008 emergency supplemental bill - last night.
