Williams withdraws as superintendent candidate

Dr. James Williams has withdrawn his name from the candidate list for Memphis City Schools superintendent, the school system announced Friday.

The announcement comes one day after Dr. Tiffany Anderson withdrew her candidacy for the position.

Williams is the current superintendent of schools for Buffalo Public Schools in New York.  He came under fire while superintendent of schools in Dayton, Ohio for a large budget deficit there.

Three candidates- Dr. Kriner Cash, Dr. Nicholas Gledich, and Dr. Yvonne Brandon- remain in the hunt for Memphis' open superintendent position.
