Woman arrested in syringe robbery

At the Brown Baguette Bakery in Southaven, you can order almost any baked good you want, but it's what a woman demanded Monday that left cashier Loren McGinnis speechless.

"Scary, really honestly it was really scary," store clerk Loren McGinnis said.

McGinnis told police Brittnye Hamblin threatened her with a syringe filled with an unknown liquid and demanded McGinnis give up the money in the cash register.

"I really rather it had been a gun or a knife honestly 'cause I don't know what was in that needle and I don't think people really understands until it really happened to them," McGinnis said.

Investigators said Hamblin took off with the money but turned herself in to police the next day.

Police officers said they knew who they were looking for because employees identified Hamblin as a "former employee" at the bakery.

Bakery employees said Hamblin was a cashier and picked a time when she knew only one employee would be in the store.

As for the syringe, police say they do not know what was in it because they haven't found it yet.

In court, Hamblin was granted a court appointed attorney.  She asked for a continuance until next week.

Meanwhile, Hamblin also faces charges of being in possession of counterfeit money.

She is being held on $35,000 bond.
