Homeowner shoots suspect wanted for string of crimes

Memphis police have arrested a burglary suspect wanted for a string of crimes.

Officers had no trouble finding Nakia Bohanan after a Memphis homeowner shot him.

"Brave enough to come in the house, no telling what they might do," said neighbor James Neal.

Investigators said Bohanan broke into the same home twice in one night. When he returned the second time, just before 1:00am Thursday, the homeowner was prepared.

"He took care of him, probably saved some lives. Come to my house, I live alone, couldn't have attacked him," said neighbor Sadie Kinsey.

According to police, the homeowner saw Bohanan inside his house and shot him.

Bohanan ran from the house, and police caught up with him. Paramedics transported Bohanan to the hospital in critical condition.

Bohanan is now out of the hospital and in jail, charged with aggravated burglary.

"He got his reward for what he did," said Kinsey.

Kinsey said Bohanan, recently released from prison, is a longtime neighborhood nuisance.

"I've heard of him ever since I've been in this neighborhood," Kinsey said.

Neighbors said if more homeowners defended themselves, it might discourage thieves.
