A suspect has been charged a recent string of home invasions and sexual assaults, officials said early Tuesday morning.

Kim Eddy, 28, was taken into custody on Saturday night.  Investigators believe he is responsible for nine home invasions, up to five sexual assaults and one rape over the past two weeks.

Eddy is accused of knocking on the doors of women's apartments and then forcing his way in with a handgun when they answered.

The victims, who range in age from 15 to 33, also had property stolen from them, including debit cards and a vehicle.

Eddy was charged with one count of Aggravated Rape, four counts of Aggravated Robbery, two counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, four counts of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Aggravated Assault, Theft of Property over $10,000 and Resisting Official Detention.

Further investigation may lead to additional charges, investigators said.

At a press conference Friday, investigators said a suspect was wanted for assaults that have happened mostly during the day in apartment complexes in the areas of Quince and Kirby, Macon and Sycamore View, and Trinity and Germantown.

Monday at the Madison Apartments, where one of the attacks happened, women were relieved a suspect was in custody.

"It gives me peace of mind that I can walk around where I live and not be scared of anybody," resident Maurine Amba said.

Police released surveillance photos of Eddy last week which showed him using an ATM card believed to be stolen in one of nine incidents where a robber knocked on doors and then forced his way in.

Just a day after police released the picture, Eddy was arrested trying to run from an abandoned building in Raleigh.  Officials said Eddy tried to swing at officers while he was taken into custody. In his booking photo, Eddy is seen with a swollen eye and busted lip.

Monday morning, police impounding recovered a black Chevy Cobalt investigators believe was used in a number of the attacks.

Meanwhile, residents who were terrified last week about a serial sex offender on the loose were still on the alert about letting people into their homes unannounced.

"I will really act differently," said Amba. "Before, if you come to visit me, you'd need to call me first. You don't just bump on my door late at night."
