Victims of serial sex offender relieved by arrest

Women who live where a serial sex offender has struck are breathing easier knowing that man is in police custody.

"Just relieved," said one woman.

Friends and loved ones of the predator's youngest victims are also relieved.

"Most definitely," said John Martin.

Martin's 15-year-old girlfriend was sexually assaulted and robbed Friday morning. The suspect entered her home minutes after the girl's mother left for work.

"She can sleep a lot better now that she knows this guy is not coming back," said Martin.

Martin said his girlfriend positively identified 28-year-old Kim Eddy during a visit with detectives over the weekend. Others victims also identified him.

"That 7 of the 9 victims who were attacked identified the same man," says Martin. "That's pretty conclusive and strong. So, I think it's the guy."

After receiving a tip, police arrested Eddy Saturday night -- one day after investigators re-released photos of him taken at an ATM.

Action News 5 was the only station on the scene Monday morning as police recovered the car Eddy is accused of stealing from one of his victims.

The crime spree for which he is now accused is far more serious than the crimes of his past, which is why Memphis Police are taking their time making sure the new charges stick.

"I'm just glad he's off the streets," said Martin. "So he can't wreak havoc on anybody else's life."
