Clinton's Arkansas supporters say it's up to her to bow out

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Two of Hillary Clinton's top supporters in Arkansas said today that the state's former first lady should be given room to decide when to formally bow out of the Democratic presidential race and recognize rival Barack Obama as the party's nominee.

Governor Mike Beebe and Senator Mark Pryor say they'll support Clinton as long as she's still in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Obama clinched the nomination yesterday and has formed to a team to help lead the vetting of a prospective vice presidential candidate.

Pryor says he won't call on Clinton to concede the race.

Clinton had the support of 11 of Arkansas' 12 superdelegates, including Pryor and Beebe. Other superdelegates, including Senator Blanche Lincoln, have also said they're backing Clinton as long as she's still in the race.

Beebe also declined to say whether he believes Clinton should acknowledge defeat in the nomination battle.
