Court date set for reckless driving charge against Bowers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Former state Sen. Kathryn Bowers of Memphis is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 1 for a misdemeanor traffic charge.

Meanwhile, Bowers is scheduled to report to a federal prison June 16 to begin a 16-month bribery sentence stemming from the Tennessee Waltz public corruption investigation.

The 65-year-old Bowers was charged reckless driving after police said she swerved across three lanes of Interstate 240 in Memphis and struck a UPS truck in Aug. 2006.

DUI charges were also filed, but were later dismissed.

In the federal case, Bowers pleaded guilty to taking $11,500 in bribes between March 2004 and January 2005.
