Wind, Not Heat Takes Top Billing at Stanford St. Jude Classic

With a steady breeze from the South, the TPC at Southwind plays tricks on the top golfers in Round One of the Stanford St. Jude Classic Thursday.

Day one of the Stanford St. Jude Championship and the major player...Mother Nature. Wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour put a premium on putting.

Vijay Singh rolls it well..the Birdie putt on nine gives Singh a 2-under at the turn...he finishes with Minus -3.

Defending Champ Woody Austin had his troubles around the course he mastered last year.

He pars 18 to finish his round at 1-over.

On the local side Vance Veasey nails the Birdie Putt on 18 making the turn...while John Daly Finished with a Birdie on 18.. He is in at 2-over.

But, the leader in the Clubhouse is Boo Weekley. Weekley missed the cut last week at The Memorial..but he comes to Memphis on a mission...with a 5-under 65.

Weekley says"

"I actually putted the ball on some good lines. We worked a little bit..i got here Saturday since I missed the cut and we came in an worked and did a lot of practicing on the greens. I saw where my weaknesses are when I play here."

Not much for Defending Champ Woody Austin in Round One

"When I play here i'm usually on the greens but today a played horrible.. Just terrible."

Round Two underway bright and early Friday 7am at the TPC at Southwind.
