Deputies: 2 St. Francis County inmates attempted to escape

FORREST CITY, Ark. (AP) - St. Francis County sheriff's deputies say two jail inmates face new charges after trying to escape by digging away at the concrete wall of their cell.

Brian Lee Dodd, 33, of Nauvoo, Ala., and Carey Graham, 38, of Hughes face second-degree escape and first-degree criminal mischief charges after the escape attempt. Jailers say Dodd and Graham dug away at the concrete wall to be able to pull away a window in their cell to escape outside.

Jailers say they found pieces of metal sharpened into weapons and a hand-drawn map of Forrest City in another hole in the wall. They say another inmate received a piece of jewelry from Dodd as payment to help with their escape.

Graham previously faced a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine. Dodd had faced charges of careless driving, theft, driving without a license and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jailers say Dodd remained in jail Friday without bail on a hold from Texas. Graham was being held Friday in lieu of $150,000 bond.
